Jaisalmer Tourism, also known as The Golden City, is a city in the state of Rajasthan. The city has been declared as a World Heritage Site. The city is on a ridge of yellow sandstone. The main attraction of the city is the Jaisalmer Fort. It is a small city that has a population of 65,471. The term Jaisalmer means the Hill Fort of Jaisal, as it was built by Rawal Jaiswal in 1156 AD. The temperature in Jaisalmer varies greatly from day to night with extremely hot temperatures in the morning followed by low temperatures in the night as it is an arid desert region. One of the main sources of livelihood for people in Jaisalmer tourism. People of Jaisalmer celebrate the Desert Festival where they organize camel races, turban-tying and Mr. Desert competitions. The city is located close to the Pakistan border. There are several hotels that are designed exactly in Rajasthani architecture and gives a feel of the culture and heritage of Rajasthan. There are several museums that are also present at Jaisalmer like Desert Culture Centre and Museum, Jaisalmer Folklore Museum, Government Museum, Jaisalmer War Museum, Akal Fossil Park Museum, Tanot Museum etc. Anyone who comes to Jaisalmer cannot miss the jeep and camel safari during sunset or sunrise with the locals playing the Rajasthani folklore. Most of the resorts are desert camps that organize ghoomar, the traditional dance of Rajasthan, performances by the locals. People who come to Rajasthan cannot afford to miss out on Jaisalmer as it holds on to the true essence of the state.
